Mount Everest is the highestpoint on earth, it is 8848m/29,028 ft tall, standing 5 and ½ milesabove sea level. Mt. Everest became named after Sir George Everest, theBritish surveyor general of India,. Everest, in Tibet Everest is known as Chomolungma and Nepali people called Sagarmatha.Mt. Everest is located half in Nepal and half in Tibet.
From Nepal Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and from New Zealand Edmund Hillary were the first climber of Everest, via the South-East Ridge Route on 29th May 1953. Ms. Junko Tabei who is fromJapan climbed Everest via the South-East Ridge and she became the firstclimber of Everest. Mr. Reinhold Messner from Italy was a first soloclimber via the North Col to the North face, he climbed on 8-20-1980.Mr. Reinhold Messner from Italy and Mr. Peter Habeler from Austria werethe first climbers who made the ascent without bottled oxygen.
