Trip Overview

Mardi Himal Trek guides you through lovely forests and traditional villages, with stunning views of the Annapurna mountains at the end. It’s a quiet and scenic trek, perfect for those seeking a less crowded path.

Mardi Himal Trek, located just east of the popular Annapurna Base Camp trek, is a hidden gem in Nepal. Few trekkers visit the Mardi Himal, which sits at the base of the impressive Machhapuchre.

After exploring Kathmandu, you’ll drive to Pokhara, a serene lakeside city where you’ll spend a night enjoying the fresh air. The Mardi Himal Trek begins in Pokhara, taking you through dense forests of pine, juniper, and rhododendron, with the pleasant sounds of rivers along the way. The trek ascends through wildlife-rich forests and offers spectacular views of the Annapurna range, including Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Hiunchuli, and Mt. Machhapuchhare.

The highlight of the Mardi Himal Trek is reaching the base camp at 3,900 meters, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Annapurna Range. If reaching the high camp isn’t possible, you’ll still be rewarded with stunning views along the way. The return route descends to the upper Mardi Khola, passing through beautiful rice terraces, unique villages, and breathtaking mountain scenery.

Accommodation is in simple guesthouses and homestays, with typical local meals served. The best times to trek are from February to May and October to December.

For more details on Mardi Himal Trek, check out our blog page dedicated to this popular and newly opened trek in the Annapurna Region.

The Mardi Himal Trek can be tailored to fit your schedule and preferences. Please let us know if you’d like to make any adjustments or modifications to the itinerary.

  • Trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at 3,900 meters above sea level.
  • Take in stunning views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhare (Fishtail).

Is this trip Right for me?

The Mardi Himal Trek might be an excellent choice for you if you’re looking for a shorter trek that offers stunning high-altitude views without the crowds of more popular routes. Here’s a detailed look at why this trek could be a great fit:

Suitability for Various Trekking Levels

1. Trek Duration and Difficulty:

  • Duration: The Mardi Himal Trek is relatively short, typically lasting 5-7 days, making it ideal if you’re looking for a manageable yet rewarding trekking experience.
  • Difficulty: This trek is considered moderate. It involves steady ascents and some steep sections, but doesn’t require advanced technical skills. A good level of fitness will help, but it’s accessible for most trekkers with some preparation.

2. Scenic Highlights:

  • High Mountain Views: The trek takes you up to Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at 3,900 meters (12,795 feet). From here, you get breathtaking views of the Annapurna Range, including Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). The scenery is both dramatic and diverse, offering panoramic mountain vistas and lush forests.
  • Forest and Village Experience: You’ll walk through dense forests of rhododendron, pine, and juniper, and pass by charming local villages. This combination provides a rich cultural and natural experience.

3. Peaceful and Less Crowded:

  • Crowd Levels: Unlike the Annapurna Base Camp or Everest Base Camp treks, Mardi Himal Trek is less frequented. This means you can enjoy a quieter, more serene trekking experience with fewer people on the trail.

4. Trekking Infrastructure:

  • Accommodation: You’ll stay in simple guesthouses and homestays along the way. These accommodations offer basic comforts and a chance to experience local hospitality.
  • Meals: Typical local meals are served, providing an authentic taste of Nepalese cuisine.

If you’re looking for other short treks that also offer high-altitude experiences, consider  Ghorepani Poon Hill, Langtang Trek

The Mardi Himal Trek is a fantastic option if you want a short, moderately challenging trek with spectacular mountain views and fewer crowds. It’s ideal for those who seek a blend of natural beauty and cultural encounters in a shorter time frame. If these aspects align with your trekking goals, Mardi Himal Trek could be the perfect adventure for you.

Additional Information

This is ADVENTURE travel, and many of the destinations on this site are in remote, underdeveloped areas where unpredictability is the norm. Despite careful planning and organization, our adventure trips can’t be taken for granted like regular trips. Many of the places we visit lack the emergency health and safety services you’re used to in the developed world. Internal flights can be canceled, road transport is often uncomfortable and unreliable, and hotel standards may not match those of the West.

If you’re not prepared for this, you shouldn’t travel with us. The unpredictability also means that our itineraries are statements of intent, not contractual obligations. Factors such as weather, transport difficulties, and political instability might require us to change any itinerary. The trip leader will make any necessary changes after consulting with the group. Such changes are rarely significant, and we always do our best to minimize their impact. However, we cannot be held responsible for changes or delays, regardless of their cause.

What makes this trip different ?

Trekking Team Groups is one of the main supporters of Ambe Foundation, a non-political and non-profit social organization. We contribute our support to the remote village of Nuwakot and different schools like Gramin Devi, Khumbeshwori through donation, sponsorship and partnership in various projects. For details click here what we do and why we do?

Donation

Trekking Team Group donates a percentage of business profits to the foundation on a yearly basis, which supports the ongoing maintenance cost required for Gramin Devi and Khumbeshwori school, a community-based school in Nuwakot.

Sponsorship

One of the major activities of Ambe foundation is the children sponsorship program, which is conducted with full collaboration with Trekking Team Group.

Partnership (Volunteering Program)

The Ambe Volunteer Program, organised by Ambe Foundation and Trekking Team Group, aims to mobilize teams of experts and interested individuals as an effective and economic measure in providing the human capital for education, health and community development in Nuwakot District.
