    Kathmandu sightseeing

    After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll embark on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley to discover its lively cityscape. Our first stop is the renowned Buddhist Stupa, Swayambunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, situated atop a hill in Kathmandu Valley. From here, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the mountains and the Kathmandu Valley. This ancient stupa is a sacred site attracting Buddhists and tourists from all over the world, known for its lofty white dome and glittering golden spire visible from afar.

    Next, we’ll visit Pashupatinath, a significant Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It’s one of the most famous temples in the Indian Subcontinent, with a nearby crematorium where funeral rites are performed, symbolizing the cycle of life and death.

    After exploring Pashupatinath, our journey continues to Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a splendid showcase of traditional Nepalese architecture. This square is adorned with centuries-old temples and palaces, offering a fascinating glimpse into Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.

    Trek to Sanctuary Lodge (3750ft/1150m)

    After breakfast, you’ll take a scenic 30-minute flight to Pokhara, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival, you can leave any extra luggage at the hotel in Pokhara that you won’t need for the trek. From there, enjoy a 40-minute scenic drive to the trek starting point at Kande.

    The trek follows a ridgeline in the lower foothills of the Annapurnas, providing panoramic views of the Pokhara Valley. As you descend into the Modi River Valley, you’ll reach the Luxury Sanctuary Lodge, which boasts magnificent views of the sacred and unclimbed Fishtail Mountain, also known locally as Machhapuchhre. A picnic lunch will be provided, and you’ll arrive at the lodge in the late afternoon.

    Trek to Himalaya Lodge, Ghandruk (6,600ft/2,000m)

    After breakfast, you’ll start your day by leaving the lodge, walking through the outskirts of farms along the Modi River valley. As you continue, you’ll gradually ascend out of the valley and towards the mountains. The trail winds through small hamlets, terraced rice fields, and forests, offering spectacular views of the surrounding valleys. Snacks will be provided along the way.

    Upon arrival in the early afternoon, a hot lunch will be served at the lodge. This lodge offers magnificent close-up views of the surrounding mountains. Located in Ghandruk Village, our lodge is the headquarters of the Annapurna Conservation Project and boasts numerous museums and a beautiful village atmosphere.

    Himalaya Lodge rest and explore around

    This morning, you’ll awaken to tea and coffee served in the garden while witnessing the sunrise over Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and the Fishtail peak. After a relaxing breakfast with magnificent views from the Himalaya Lodge, our guide will lead you on an exploration of this mountain village and its surrounding countryside.

    Ghandruk, once a prominent recruitment center for Gurkha soldiers, offers insights into local culture and history. The women of Ghandruk are known for weaving traditional Nepalese rugs, contributing to a vibrant local industry. You’ll also visit the museum and the Annapurna Conservation Project to learn more about the region’s natural and cultural heritage.

    Trek to Bee Village Lodge, Lhandruk (5415 ft /1565 m)

    After enjoying a leisurely breakfast and soaking in the breathtaking views from the Himalaya Lodge, you’ll begin your trek to Lhandruk. Leaving the village of Ghandruk behind, the trail initially descends steeply to the banks of the Modi River. Here, you’ll witness the cliffs where Nepal’s famed honey hunters scale ropes to collect honey.

    Crossing a sturdy suspension bridge to the opposite bank of the Modi River, you’ll embark on a trek that involves about an hour of switchbacks and steps leading up to the village of Lhandruk. This village offers stunning views of the Annapurna range along the way. The trek takes approximately 4 hours, with lunch awaiting upon arrival.

    After lunch, your guide will lead you on an exploration hike through the mountain village of Lhandruk, allowing you to delve deeper into its unique charm and local culture.

    Trek to Gurung Lodge, Majgaun (4620 ft / 1400m)

    After breakfast, you’ll depart from Bee Lodge and begin your trek to Gurung Lodge in Majgaun. Today’s trek follows the contours of the hillside, with gentle ups and downs, passing through villages and farmlands. The trek to the lodge takes approximately 4 hours, offering scenic views along the way.

    You’ll arrive at Gurung Lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you can choose to take optional hikes to nearby villages or simply relax amidst the beautiful surroundings, enjoying the panoramic mountain views with a cup of coffee or a beer.

    Trek to Basanta Lodge, Dhampus (5000 ft / 1525 m)

    This morning, you’ll begin your trek through the pristine village of Patlekhet. As you walk, you’ll traverse sub-tropical forests adorned with tree orchids, rhododendrons, and magnolias. Along the trail, you’ll reach the village of Pothana, where Tibetan traders reside and sell their souvenirs. After about 3 ½ hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Basanta Lodge.

    From Basanta Lodge, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the entire Annapurna Range. After lunch at the lodge, there’s an optional walk through the historic village of Dhampus, offering further exploration and cultural insights.

    Trek to Pokhara (2640 ft /830 m)

    After breakfast, you’ll begin your trek by following the ridge, descending through wooded hillsides and terraced farmland to the valley floor. The trek takes about 1 ½ hours. From there, you’ll transfer by vehicle to your booked hotel in Pokhara, which is a 30-minute drive away.

    On the way back to Pokhara, the vehicle can stop upon request at the Tibetan refugee camp, where you’ll have time to explore the temple complex.

    You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy lunch and dinner at local restaurants. The afternoon is free to explore Lakeside, where many of Nepal’s Tibetan curio shops are situated.

    Free day in Pokhara

    You have a full day ahead in Pokhara, a city known for its serene lakeside setting and stunning mountain views. Take this opportunity to relax and rejuvenate amidst the natural beauty that surrounds you. You might stroll along the lakeside, where cafes and restaurants offer picturesque views of the Annapurna range reflected in Phewa Lake’s mirror-like waters. Consider taking a boat ride on the lake, exploring its islands and enjoying the peaceful ambiance.

    For the more adventurous, Pokhara offers activities like paragliding, zip-lining, or visiting the International Mountain Museum to delve into Nepal’s mountaineering history. Alternatively, indulge in a spa treatment, yoga session, or simply unwind with a good book while soaking in the tranquil atmosphere. Pokhara’s charm lies in its ability to cater to both relaxation and adventure, ensuring you make the most of your day in this beautiful city.

    Fly to Kathmandu (4265 ft / 1300 m)

    We have a free morning to enjoy until our flight back to Kathmandu. The flight to Kathmandu, which takes about 30 minutes, is renowned for its breathtaking views of the Himalayas, often considered one of the best mountain flights.

    Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we will transfer to Bhaktapur, a medieval town rich in art and architecture. Bhaktapur, also known as Bhadgaon, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases the best of traditional Newari culture. As you wander through its narrow, cobblestone streets, you’ll be transported back in time by the well-preserved ancient buildings, intricately carved wooden windows, and stunning temples.

    Day in Bhaktapur

    We’ll explore Durbar Square, the heart of Bhaktapur, where you’ll find the 55-Window Palace, Vatsala Temple, and the towering Nyatapola Temple, the tallest pagoda-style temple in Nepal. The city is also famous for its pottery and vibrant local crafts, which you can observe at Pottery Square.

    After a day of immersing ourselves in the historical and cultural wonders of Bhaktapur, we’ll stay overnight in this enchanting town, allowing you to soak in the ambiance and perhaps catch a glimpse of the town’s charming evening activities.

    This is ADVENTURE travel, and many of the destinations on this site are in remote, underdeveloped areas where unpredictability is the norm. Despite careful planning and organization, our adventure trips can’t be taken for granted like regular trips. Many of the places we visit lack the emergency health and safety services you’re used to in the developed world. Internal flights can be canceled, road transport is often uncomfortable and unreliable, and hotel standards may not match those of the West.

    If you’re not prepared for this, you shouldn’t travel with us. The unpredictability also means that our itineraries are statements of intent, not contractual obligations. Factors such as weather, transport difficulties, and political instability might require us to change any itinerary. The trip leader will make any necessary changes after consulting with the group. Such changes are rarely significant, and we always do our best to minimize their impact. However, we cannot be held responsible for changes or delays, regardless of their cause.
