Trip Overview
Imagine spending one day biking trip near Kathmandu Valley, a journey that combines exhilarating physical activity with an immersive cultural experience. This full-day mountain bike tour around the Kathmandu Valley rim takes you on ridge-top trails, mostly along peaceful dirt roads, far from the bustle of the city. It’s an adventure that leads you through mountain villages, past small temples, and into the heart of Nepal’s natural beauty.
The tour caters to different levels of biking experience and fitness. Whether you’re looking for an easier ride of about 19 miles (32 kilometers) or a more challenging 37-mile (62-kilometer) trek, there’s a route perfect for you. No matter which option you choose, the tour guarantees spectacular views of the Nepalese Himalayas, adding a majestic backdrop to your day.
Your adventure begins in the lively city of Kathmandu. As you start pedaling away from the city, the noise and chaos gradually fade, replaced by the peaceful sounds of nature. The initial climb can be tough, but it’s worth it. As you ascend, panoramic views of the valley below and the towering Himalayan peaks come into view. The air is cooler and fresher, and the scenery shifts to reveal the stunning Makalu and Annapurna ranges.
Riding along the ridge-top trails, you’re enveloped in a world of wooded slopes and picturesque mountain villages. These villages, seemingly untouched by modernity, offer a peek into traditional Nepali life. Friendly locals greet you with warm smiles, adding a personal touch to your journey. You might see farmers working in their terraced fields or children playing in open spaces, their laughter mingling with the crisp mountain air.
Further along the trail, you’ll encounter hidden temples and shrines nestled in the greenery. These sacred spots, adorned with detailed carvings and colorful prayer flags, exude a peaceful, spiritual vibe. Taking a break here to soak in the tranquility and reflect can be deeply rewarding, connecting you with the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
The terrain varies, with a mix of smooth trails and more technical, rocky sections. This variety keeps the ride interesting and fun. The technical parts add a sense of adventure, challenging your skills and giving you a sense of accomplishment as you navigate them.
Throughout the day, the Himalayas are your constant companions, their snow-capped peaks standing proudly against the sky. These awe-inspiring views make the physical exertion feel like a small price to pay for such natural beauty. Cycling through these pristine landscapes gives you a profound sense of freedom and connection with nature.
As your tour winds down, the descent back into the valley offers time to reflect on your day. The sense of achievement from tackling the trails, combined with the rich sensory memories of the sights and sounds, leaves a lasting impression. Whether you’re an experienced mountain biker seeking a new challenge or a nature lover looking for a serene escape, this full-day mountain bike tour around the Kathmandu Valley rim is an unforgettable journey through one of Nepal’s most beautiful regions.

Trip Reviews
I did a half day trip with Trekking Team Group in Kathmandu Valley. My guide was Kishwor. He’s a great professional guide who speaks English well. The trip I did was 37 km, starting point Thamel in Kathmandu. It’s great that you can escape the hectic of Kathmandu so easily by bike and be in the quite environment of Kathmandu valley with fascinating houses, children who are waving at you and some nice landscape views of the valley. Kishwor took good care of me and made sure we had some stops to have a nice chai. If you like mountain biking, even just a little bit, I would definitely recommend you to get in contact with this company. They can arrange trips from a half day to more days. Just go for it and enjoy!!

As a family with the youngest being 13 years old the traffic in Kathmandu was not to much of a problem as long as you are confident and literally go with the flow. Kishwor our guide was great and we got to see the city away from the normal tourist areas. We rode up to Changnarayan, through paddy fields, past farms stopping for lunch. We had good quality disk brake Giant bikes. A brilliant day. 10/10 can’t wait to do it again

Did the Marijuana loop. Haven’t rode a bike for a good 5 years, let alone a mountain bike ever! But our guide Kishwor was really helpful, talented and patient! Hard work but if you have a base level of fitness it is doable and if you can’t make it on the hills riding then its totally ok to get off and push. Such a good way to spend a day out of the busy city, fresh air, beautiful rice paddies views and riding through some little villages. I have a sore butt but its well worth it!

Additional Information
This is ADVENTURE travel, and many of the destinations on this site are in remote, underdeveloped areas where unpredictability is the norm. Despite careful planning and organization, our adventure trips can’t be taken for granted like regular trips. Many of the places we visit lack the emergency health and safety services you’re used to in the developed world. Internal flights can be canceled, road transport is often uncomfortable and unreliable, and hotel standards may not match those of the West.
If you’re not prepared for this, you shouldn’t travel with us. The unpredictability also means that our itineraries are statements of intent, not contractual obligations. Factors such as weather, transport difficulties, and political instability might require us to change any itinerary. The trip leader will make any necessary changes after consulting with the group. Such changes are rarely significant, and we always do our best to minimize their impact. However, we cannot be held responsible for changes or delays, regardless of their cause.
What makes this trip different ?
Trekking Team Groups is one of the main supporters of Ambe Foundation, a non-political and non-profit social organization. We contribute our support to the remote village of Nuwakot and different schools like Gramin Devi, Khumbeshwori through donation, sponsorship and partnership in various projects. For details click here what we do and why we do?
Donation
Trekking Team Group donates a percentage of business profits to the foundation on a yearly basis, which supports the ongoing maintenance cost required for Gramin Devi and Khumbeshwori school, a community-based school in Nuwakot.
Sponsorship
One of the major activities of Ambe foundation is the children sponsorship program, which is conducted with full collaboration with Trekking Team Group.
Partnership (Volunteering Program)
The Ambe Volunteer Program, organised by Ambe Foundation and Trekking Team Group, aims to mobilize teams of experts and interested individuals as an effective and economic measure in providing the human capital for education, health and community development in Nuwakot District.
