You’ll travel along the Kali Gandaki Valley, passing through Beni and Tatopani, where we’ll stop for lunch and enjoy a hot spring bath.

Afterward, we’ll continue to Marpha, a beautiful Thakali village and one of the highlights of the region. If we arrive late, we can explore Marpha in the morning before proceeding to Muktinath. Don’t forget that Marpha is known for its apple orchards and local apple brandy.

Day 5

After an early breakfast, we’ll take a scenic drive through Jomsom, the main town in the Mustang District. Our destination is Muktinath, a revered holy temple where we’ll spend some time exploring, paying our respects, and enjoying lunch with stunning views of the Himalayas. The drive today is particularly beautiful if the weather is clear, and it’s more comfortable compared to previous days.

After visiting Muktinath, we’ll head down to Kagbeni, a village at a lower altitude that helps us avoid altitude sickness. Kagbeni is a charming spot with traditional architecture and a relaxed atmosphere, making it perfect for a leisurely evening stroll.

Day 6

Drive to Ghami Village (3520m/11548ft)

After breakfast, set off for Upper Mustang, where you’ll need to pass through a checkpoint to show your special permit. The journey takes you along the Kaligandaki River, and you’ll pass by Chhusang village before climbing up to several picturesque settlements, including Samar, Syangboche, and Ghiling, finally reaching Ghami village.

The scenery is breathtaking, with Syangboche in particular offering stunning views. Along the way, we’ll frequently stop by the river, at various villages, and high mountain passes to capture photos, chat with locals, and observe yak and sheep caravans. You’ll also get a glimpse of the villagers hard at work on their farms.

Day 7

Drive to Lo-Mangthang (3840m/12598ft)

After breakfast, drive to Lomanthang, the capital of Upper Mustang. On the way, we’ll visit Charang Monastery and Ghar Gompa, which is one of the oldest monasteries in Mustang. When we arrive in Lomanthang, have lunch and then take some time to explore the walled city and its impressive monasteries and gompas.

Today’s highlights include several historic gompas: Thubchen Gompa, a large red hall from the late 15th century; Chodey Gompa, the main city gompa and home to the Monastic Museum; and Jampa Gompa, built in the early 15th century and known as the “God House.” You’ll also get to see a Buddhist school, local arts, the king’s palace, and enjoy the amazing mountain views.

Additional Information

This is ADVENTURE travel, and many of the destinations on this site are in remote, underdeveloped areas where unpredictability is the norm. Despite careful planning and organization, our adventure trips can’t be taken for granted like regular trips. Many of the places we visit lack the emergency health and safety services you’re used to in the developed world. Internal flights can be canceled, road transport is often uncomfortable and unreliable, and hotel standards may not match those of the West.

If you’re not prepared for this, you shouldn’t travel with us. The unpredictability also means that our itineraries are statements of intent, not contractual obligations. Factors such as weather, transport difficulties, and political instability might require us to change any itinerary. The trip leader will make any necessary changes after consulting with the group. Such changes are rarely significant, and we always do our best to minimize their impact. However, we cannot be held responsible for changes or delays, regardless of their cause.

What makes this trip different ?

Trekking Team Groups is one of the main supporters of Ambe Foundation, a non-political and non-profit social organization. We contribute our support to the remote village of Nuwakot and different schools like Gramin Devi, Khumbeshwori through donation, sponsorship and partnership in various projects. For details click here what we do and why we do?

Donation

Trekking Team Group donates a percentage of business profits to the foundation on a yearly basis, which supports the ongoing maintenance cost required for Gramin Devi and Khumbeshwori school, a community-based school in Nuwakot.

Sponsorship

One of the major activities of Ambe foundation is the children sponsorship program, which is conducted with full collaboration with Trekking Team Group.

Partnership (Volunteering Program)

The Ambe Volunteer Program, organised by Ambe Foundation and Trekking Team Group, aims to mobilize teams of experts and interested individuals as an effective and economic measure in providing the human capital for education, health and community development in Nuwakot District.
