Ladakh is situated above the Indus River at 12,000ft and isolated within the Karakoram and Zanskar mountain ranges, which provides the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world. It is said that in Ladakh, a man sitting in the Sun with his feet in the shade, suffer from Sunstroke and frostbite at the same time. The people, region and the culture of Ladakh are same as the Tibet and the Central Asia. People found in the Eastern and Central region of Ladakh are of Tibetan Origin. Many villages are crowned with a Gomba or Monastery. The approach to the village is marked by Mani walls, which are engraved stones bearing mantra Om Mane Padme Hum.
Ladakh is known as Little Tibet, because of Its rich culture, tradition, landscape and the people.The monasteries are perched on high cliffs and hilltops and due to this they appear as guardians over the starkly beautiful landscape.
Biking in ladakh provides an exhilarating opportunity for those who dream of cycling through the highest mountain range in the world. Cycling at all levels can be a welcome experience. In Ladakh,one can visit many of the fascinating Buddhist Gompas on the way while cycling through charming local villages, all with the backdrop of the snow-capped Himalayas.
To bike the Zig-Zag roads in Ladakh, one needs to be technically perfect biker as the roads are rough,though paved. A support car to carry ones luggage comes handy and helps to enjoy the great Himalayan range without any worry.
The best season and reliable period to do biking in Ladakh is from late June - end of August. Ladakh having most of their festivals as well in this period but we will try to coordinate to see the Tibetan Buddhism culture and tradition.
